Covenant of Antarctica Boxed Set Showcase and Review

My Freshly Painted CoA Fleet
Lately I'm living and breathing Dystopian Wars. I LOVE the scale of this game and combined arms games are always something that I've been stoked about.

I started out my gaming experience as an adult by coming across a Games Workshop Epic game way back in the day and just loved how you could build lists that would allow you to take infantry, vehicles, flyers, spaceships, titans, etc.

Dystopian Wars is like that and similar to Epic in that it is Activation based. Anyhow, I won't get into the rules system too much because really what I want this post to be about is a showcase of the boxed set for the Covenant of Antarctica.

Dystopian Wars or OMG, OMG It's Steampunk Boats!

Zac's Prussian Battleship looks awesome!
So last Thursday I made it down to Myth Games to meet up with some of the locals and played some Dystopian Wars. I had a great intro game with Stad and met two other Dystopian Wars players Zac and Brett.

I've been really keen about this game ever since my buddy Tristan over at Tabletop Tacticians had talked about it and since have become a huge fan of Spartan Games. I certainly wouldn't mind getting into their full range of games.

I played the British versus Stad's Prussians. In the end I lost to him; he had a slightly modified list with lots of arial support as well as the arial Prussian carrier and I was running the Britanian boxed set. Unfortunately neither of the armies were painted but I did manage to get some shots of Zac's painted Prussians which looked fabulous on the Dreadfleet cloth that comes in the boxed set.

Steam-Powered Robots: Menoth vs. Mercenaries After Action Report

Paladin gazes fearlessly at the Mercenary's right flank
So having gotten settled back in Calgary, I was eager to get some games in at the local gaming stores. After some searching around on the local forums I managed to get myself a game with Dallas, an experienced warmachine player (and a great sportsman!) against his Mercenary force.

Dallas seems to play very similar to me, in that he goes more for the look of a model rather than for how uber it might be as far as the game rules are concerned.

So we met on Wednesday night and got a nice little 25 point game in, I took my Protectorate of Menoth force with Amon Ad Raza as my warcaster. I love this warcaster because he allows jacks to move pretty much without any kind of penalties as long as he has Mobility up and running. For Menoth he is the jack caster apparently and since I'm lovin the steam-powered robots why not go with a caster that will support them?

Dungeon Defenders Review

Alright, I managed to get a good block of time in yesterday to play some Dungeon Defenders. Here is my review:

Dungeon Defenders is a great little game that's been produced by Trendy Entertainment. Pretty much immediately you can tell that this gaming company doesn't take themselves too seriously. With graphics and artistic direction that pays tribute to the old school Gauntlet days (a game I LOVED when I was a kid), this game is definitely the in category of cartoon-like fantasy. If you are looking for realistic play this is not the game for you!

My Home is My Castle, But What's My Dungeon?

Space is at a bit of premium at the parent in-law's place, so I've been looking at some deals on Steam. Dungeon Defenders was offered at a ridiculously good price on Steam so I bought the four pack for something like $11 US. So I got the pack and handed it out to some friends of mine in the hopes that folks would play with me. :)

Huzzah. I played the demo of this game like crazy. LOVED it and have been waiting for a deal on it ever since. It's a great blend of RPG and Tower Defense. Anyhow, downloading now so I'll check it out and review it fully once it's complete.

In other news I've been assembling and starting to paint the Puma horde in anticipation of the Game Summit Flames of War tournament in February. I'll be posting a complete painting guide on the models in the next week.
